2018 Carolina Skiff 218 DLV Walkthrough The Boat House Florida

Hi my name is Greg Meinel and welcome
to The Boat House and Port Charlotte. Today we’re at 4295 Laura Street in Port Charlotte, Florida behind Walgreens on Edgewater and 41. We have seven locations at The Boat House. We got four stores in the north and we have
three in Southwest Florida. So we got this store in Port Charlotte we have one
in Cape Coral and we have one on Davis Boulevard in Naples. Today we’re on the
Carolina Skiff. We’re on a 218 DLV. I own this particular boat I wanted to
talk to you about Carolina Skiff, about The Boat House and about why you should get a Carolina Skiff and use it for either recreation or commercial purposes.
It’s up to you. They work great for both. First of all, Let me tell you about Carolina
Skiff they have over 60 models of Skiffs to choose from. so you’re going to be able
to find something that’s going to suit your needs. Okay these boats are 100%
composite there is no wood to rot away in them. They’re foam filled okay and on the
DLV models they all have six inches of draft. Let me tell you about the DLV’s
they start at 17-foot they go to a 25-foot. They go 17, 19, 21, 23, 25. From the 21 to
the 25 is a 30 gallon fuel capacity. The 17 and the 19 have the 20 gallon
tanks. It’s going to be enough gas so you’ll be able to bolt throughout
the day. Okay, they exceed NMMA standards. So you know you’re getting the highest
quality in a boat at that point. They are out of Waycross Georgia. That’s where the manufacturing plant is. They don’t buy thousand cleats they buy truckloads of
cleats. They keep the price down. They give you value they’re a great boat. Okay
when you start talking about Carolina Skiff the people that have been down
here for years recognize the name right away. Resale value is great because of
the rate name recognition and the quality is there. The commercial
fishermen are very known to use the Carolina Skiff. I have a 218 DLV I’ve made mine into a boat that I use not only for my family
but I also use it for the commercial fishing application. There’s a lot of
good things about the Carolina Skiff that I wanted to show you now so we’re
going to start with a walk through on the front of the boat. First thing I need
to point out is this step. Okay there are steps on both sides. they are also
in the rear. As far as for the family goes I throw a blanket up here they lay
out up here and they have a nice ride. As far as commercial fishing goes take
these cleats off. They’re going to get in your way. You can throw a nice 10 to 12-foot cast net off the bow of then step down,
pull your fish up along the gunnel side and drag them into the boat. That
anchor Locker is great because you’ll always know where your anchor is. Up in
here you’ve got nice big storage areas. Okay as far as putting your life jacket,
your throw towel, devices, any toolkit, safety kits. Whatever else you want you
got plenty of room for all that stuff up in here. It’s a real nice area. The fact
you can step on the hall, step on the front decking is really nice too. So
let’s start moving back on the boat. Here we get to our helm. This has a nice helm in it. Let’s start with the helm seat. We’ve got a
live well under here and this is great for shrimp. It’s also has an LED light in
it. You’re going to be able to see what you got. Drink cup holder here.
Handrails to grab. Fishing rod holders. Alright let’s continue to talk about the
helm safety grab rail. Okay very nice removable windshield. Got tabs in here
you can take it off clean the debris and stuff that gets up there inside there it’s not a problem. Another nice feature is this dry storage you got underneath
the front of this helm. It’s a nice big area. They try to make this so you can use all the area on the boat. You got your gauges laid out really nice. You
got a miles per hour bolts of fuel and your tabs. You’ve got a nice
hydraulic tilt steering on this boat so you can adjust the steering However you
want it. You’ve got a USB port here with a charging system so you can charge
your phone. You also have an Infiniti stereo on this particular model. Four
speaker system it’s going to sound great. It’s got bluetooth so your kids can show
you how to use it in case you can’t figure it out but either way you’re
going to be in business as far as that goes. Now we’re going talk about the helm seat.
the helm seat has got your rocket launcher for your rods. It’s got nice
storage underneath it here for anything tackle or whatever you want to
put in there and then you’ve also got this nice bar system here so you got a
nice place to put your feet. Drink cup holders readily available not a problem
so that’s really nice. Now let’s talk the sixty inch bimini top. You can move it forward if you need to move it back you can. it’s
adjustable on these tracks here so you’re gonna be able to move it to
however you want it. Another thing these are 26 inch high gunnel sides so nobody’s
going to get hurt and fall out of the boat. The ride on these boats is really
good. It’s very stable. Very dry is probably the biggest keyword that I’ll
use on this boat because I’ve had been on boats. I’ve had quite a few boats and
when you have a wet boat and you have the waves splashing on you no good
that’s why I stuck with my 218 Carolina Skiff for so many years because
it’s dry I’m out there in the waves. I’m staying dry the other guys are
putting on their slickers and getting wet. So let’s look at the back of the
boat again you’ve got another nice step that allows you to step up. Use this as a platform. You can fish, you can throw a cast net off of it. Whatever you want
to do okay you’ve got nice storage underneath here you can access your
batteries in the middle you’re going to be able to get to your bilge pumps and all
that here’s a nice 18 gallon live well okay so you can put the fish that you do
catch in there it’s also got an LED light in it that’s the way this boat was
ordered these jump seats are great they’ve got drink cup holders they’ll
flip right up okay you can sit back here get a nice ride and then you’ve
also got storage underneath here so you’ll be able to put whatever you want
in there and utilize the space properly. Also, I should mention that this
boat has a 30 gallon fuel tank capacity. the 218 through the 258 have the thirty gallon. 178 and the 198 have 20 gallon fuel
tank but the point is you’re going to be able to run all day off of that. What’s nice about it now let’s talk about why commercial fishermen use
this boat. Capacity. 14 people 974 pounds. Trust me, I don’t think it’s
recommended but I’ve done a lot more than that. I’ve weighed in several
thousand pounds of mullet that I took in off my boat. Yes the boat was a
little low in the water however we went through some pretty
pretty decent waves. You don’t feel threatened because you still got good
buoyancy you started with the high side. Yes you brought the boat down
a little waves but you still got a nice gunnel height that’s going to resist the
waves from coming over the side of the boat. It worked out
great for me. I’ve never gotten in trouble on my DLV. I’ve been in a lot of
storms a lot of situations I’ve had it for 11 years. I’ve been out there during
the Hurricanes bringing traps in you know and using the boat twelve thousand
hours I’ve done on the boat so I pretty much hit every angle and every storm you
could get to, I found it. That’s on the Let’s talk about the motor a
little bit on this particular model we’ve got the 115 Suzuki. I have a 115 on
mine as well. I run right at 40 miles an hour tops. Although you don’t want to run it that way you’re going to probably bring it
around 3500 rpm or so maybe 4,000 and you’re going to run you out about 28 miles
an hour which is a nice cruising speed for this boat. Six year warranty on the
Suzuki motors which is a nice feature and here’s a freshwater flush out so
you take your freshwater hose and put it into the motor. Every time you run it
it’ll increase the life of the motor and get the salt water out of the system so
that you don’t ever run into issues with that. Okay, I wanted to talk to you about
the front end of this Carolina Skiff DLV and why it’s so good in the waves.
Traditionally the Carolina Skiff when they started out with their kit boats
they would have that flat front end. Through technology, through trial
and experience Carolina Skiff put together this DLV model. Here’s the big
thing with the DLV. It’s got this dead rise that starts out
really nice and steep in the beginning. Then you got this lip so when
waves come up it’s going to catch the dead rise catch the lip now if you get
into a bigger wave which occasionally happens usually only when boats are
going by at that point you’re going to break this and come up through here
but you still got another six inches or so of gunnel lip that’s going to be able
to catch all the waves on top of that so between the three spans by the time
the waves are trying to penetrate you they’re not going to. They’re going out.
they’re going away from you it’s a great haul. Hey guys! Thanks for checking out the
Carolina Skiff with me today. again I’m Greg from Port Charlotte. You

Hey , thanks for the video! I especially liked the end where you discussed the Hull shape and gunnels. How rough of a ride does the 218 have when you hit some waves ? I have been on other skiff type boats and the older Carolina Skiffs where I have been beater to death.

At first I didn’t see how this could be a dry riding boat because it really has no flare on the bow. But then I realize it has what I guess is called a rolled gunwale? So I guess this is what disperses the waves
