When we got down to Shenandoah River
Outfitters, they’ve got a sign out front that tells you the estimated river level
and it was all the way up on flood. So I knew I was gonna have a really good time.
We headed out into the South Fork of the Shenandoah. It’s nice and brown so
definitely waters high, and then we got probably about halfway down to this
cliff that Isaac showed us. The way up it was definitely taller than we were
expecting, but still a lot of fun. And there’s a couple different levels so
even if you’re not feeling super sendy you can do a little bit of cliff jumping.
Right below that is Compton Rapids which is generally, I think a class two. But
with high water there’s some pretty big waves. And Scott and I do a lot of
kayaking so we kind of thought that we we wouldn’t have too many problems. But
apparently kayaking is a lot different than canoeing because we did a lot of
swimming. And it was a lot of fun, but we thought we would come out with our heads
dry. It turns out we’re not that good at canoeing and we definitely went for a
long swim down the rapid. It was super fun. We had a great time.
