DHS Team Paddles in River Cities Dragon Boat Festival

DHS Team Paddles in River Cities Dragon Boat Festival

This is the seventh year for the dragon
boat races and we’ve never participated before, so this year
DHS decided to get a team together. It filled up immediately. So we’re out here
20 of our closest friends in a boat all rowing together and our goal is not to
tump over! There are 20 people, 20 paddlers in
these boats and one drummer to keep us all in sync and to give a little flair.
We’re out here for a good cause, the Child Protection Center or CPC, they are a
nonprofit organization that helps with child maltreatment cases. The boats, the
paddles, life vests, everything’s supplied. All we got to do is get in the water and
paddle till our arms fall off and have a good time. We’ve got a booth set up, we
probably got 30 people here from DHS just coming out enjoying, hanging out
and visiting. It’s a gorgeous day, nice breeze and I think everyone’s
having a great time . At DHS we deal with the most vulnerable populations in
Arkansas and that can be tough sometimes. So it is important that we get
outside the office, have a little bit of fun, feel that camaraderie. So the
agency’s trying to do more things to get people out and involved. And we’ve
decided this just needs to be an annual thing because it’s been a great time. “Go DHS”
