How to Steer and Paddle a Canoe : Mastering the Duffek Strokes in Canoeing

You can also do an off side duffek which is
basically follows the same principal, I do an off side draw stroke which is over here,
drop my top hand back, slide up on the shaft a little more if I need to, and hold that
position while I have some momentum and that will rudder my bow to the off side. Here’s
what that looks like. If you notice, when I finish either the cross
duffek or the on side duffek I turn it into a forward stroke, in the case of an on side
duffek I turn it into an on side forward stroke, in case of the cross duffek I turn it into
a cross forward stroke and that’s a nice way to continue the momentum you developed
in the turn and move into the next move smoothly and efficiently.
