Leg 7 – Summary

Leg 7 – Summary

Ladies & gentlemen, please give it up for Turn The Tide On Plastic! So, we’ve got cold weather, clouds, rain, high winds and then the infamous Cape Horn. When you start talking about
the Southern Ocean and especially Cape Horn it’s pretty much every offshore sailors dream. We’ve had a great first 48 hours,
put ourselves in the lead. We’ve now got the whole fleet
breathing down our necks, but we’re sending it,
sending it into the South. It’s like trying to get dressed standing on the back of a flat-bed truck doing 100km/h down a bumpy road. We’re pushing pretty hard for
the last two, three days. I’m quite sure how many days it’s been. We have to manage this. I don’t want it to get any worse, but she’s also one
very difficult lady to stop. Well, you know, you see everybody else
up here working, so you want to join in on the action. It’s pretty damn cold actually. I haven’t been able to feel
my fingers for the last hour and a half. Ah, we have Dongfeng just off our bow and
we have Vestas about 9nm off our stern. Earlier on we had Mapfre cross
just in front of us, so we’re doing pretty well. We’ve got good drivers and we’ve got good
boat speed and we’re confident in what we do and we’ve made some good decisions. So, we’ve just rounded the
notorious landmark of Cape Horn. It’s quite monumental because
it’s the exit of the Southern Ocean, so, we’re now back in the Atlantic, but with a whole lot of race to go. It’s like a dream of a life time
for every sailor, so it’s crazy. A bit gutted at the moment. We had a brilliant Southern Ocean leg
and now we’ve just got a rig issue, but we are not giving up. This is not over yet! One, two! Done! Nice job! The rig is good, Easter, it’s a miracle. It’s a monster leg and
we’ve come through and we’ve finished and we had to work hard for that finish, but it’s been like that the whole leg. It’s been hard work and these guys really deserve the credit they get for coming in fourth place. Awesome! I’m so proud of them.
