Offshore Fishing in the Hobie Outback

Offshore Fishing in the Hobie Outback

What’s going on everybody? Seth from the
Next Adventure Paddle Sports Center here. I’m out at the Oregon coast about to go
offshore in the Hobie Outback. Looking for some rockfish and hoping to maybe
find some lingcod today as well. Let’s go check it out, it’s pretty much a
lake out there so should be a pretty fun day. It’s starting off a little slow here, got
two fish but the lingcod that I caught was undersized and it’s October now so we’re
pretty well outside of Cabezon being open, that’s the first fish that I caught.
So, going to go out a little deeper here. See if we can find some schools of rockfish.
Put a little food on the table. Here we go! Oh man, this is really gonna suck. Everybody who fished out here knows that when
it’s not Cabezon season, you’ll catch Cabezon. No joke, got that Cabezon released. Dropped down, first
full on the jig. Another big Cabezon. Back down it goes. All right. Putting in
the work, just got a bunch more Cabezon an undersized Ling. I was getting
tired and about to take it back in and got in shallow, decided to drop. Got a
nice 22 actually it’s a 23 inch, just above legally sized Lingcod. Nice,
decently fat one. Gonna hang on to that for dinner. See if I can’t pick up a couple
more fish while I’m in here nice and shallow. Didn’t stick it out too much
longer after that last lingcod. It’s been a long day. Sun is kind of starting to go
down a little bit, you know. Had an epic surf in and GoPro died right as
I was landing of course. So nobody will ever see that one. But it’s pretty sweet, got
some good nice little swells going on right now. Hope you guys enjoyed the
video. If you did, give it a like. Be sure to subscribe the channel and see
more sweet on the water footage.

Another great vid Seth. Heck, I didn't know you moved over to Next Adventure PDX until recently 🙂 Any chance you could point out exactly where this launch is at? If I ever get feel ballsy I might try offshore yaking…with a buddy system of course heh.

Subbed! Great b rolls and solid catching action, made it easy for me to hit that button. Makes me miss fishing the Cali coast! Consider checking me out if you have time!

Thanks for the video. I love that place. This ODFW sport fishery cabezon closure is getting pretty annoying. From what I've seen, there are a lot of large cabs out there & this closure favors the commercial fishery. The commercial retention of Cabezon is open all year, with a 2 month quota of 1,000 pounds. If numbers are declining like ODFW says they are (I'm skeptical), ODFW should close the commercial & recreational seasons during spawning (late October to mid April) & reduce the commercial catch quota.

Sure that was a leopard seal? They're an Antarctic species & it would be unusual to see one in these waters. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/l/leopard-seal/
My guess would be a harbor seal.
