Setting Favorites Using SAFIS – Maryland Department of Natural Resources

Here we are on the main ACCSP website
and it’s accsp.org. The third link over gives you a drop-down
menu under “Data Center” and the second option is “SAFIS”. Go ahead and click “SAFIS” which is the
Standard Atlantic Fisheries Information System. Click this link here “SAFIS Applications”. That should take you to the login page which
you want to go ahead and save as a bookmark because you’re going to be logging in frequently
to add trip reports. I’m going to go ahead and login
as a pseudo fisherman and walk you through how to use our system. When you login this is the main menu you’ll
come to on the right hand side you have the option to change your password and on the
left you have the “SAFIS Electronic Trip Reports” link. Go ahead and click on that and it’ll bring
you to a list of all your license types. If you only have one license type, it’ll bring
you directly to the next page. I’m going to mainly be working with this “TFL
CRABS” license today. So, I’ll select that and this is the main
“e-TRIPS” menu. You have five different options here on the
left. “Trip Reports” is when you want to add
a trip report. “Negative Reports” is when you didn’t
fish or crab. “Favorites” are default settings so that
your reports are mostly filled out when you go in to enter them. “Fisher Info” is just your email address
and phone number and such. And the “Reports Menu” is a way to look
at the reports that you’ve entered in the past. You’re mainly going to be working in these
top three links here and first off I’m going to show you how to
set up your favorites. Go ahead and click on “Favorites”. That brings you to a menu where you can add
“Trip Header” information. “Effort” information and “Species”
information. Click on “Add Additional Trip Header”
and it should automatically say “Maryland” under “State Landed”. For “Port” you want to put what port you’re
using or what county your port is in. This third field here is “Vessel”. When you use this drop down menu, it’ll bring
you to a link that says “Select From All Vessels”. You click on that
and should open up another page with a list of vessels. If for some reason it gives you an error,
that you have your pop-ups blocked. You can say “Allow pop-ups for this page”. In the “Search” menu you can put in your
vessel name, your Coast Guard number or your registration number. I’m just going to use an unknown vessel for
this example. Then you want to “Add Additional Effort”
which is the waters fished, the area and the gear. Click on “Add Additional Effort”
and you’ll see you have the option to select the waters. We’re going to do “Inland Waters”,
And the “State” is “Maryland”, the “Area Fished” – let’s just say we’re
crabbing in Chesapeake Bay. And the “Sub Area”, these are listed alphabetically
and you’ll notice the codes are different from the codes that you’re used to. Just go by the name of the area with this
program if you have any questions you can let me know. I’ll just click on “Chesapeake Bay General”
for now. The next field is “Gear”. All the gear types are listed that we use
in Maryland and other states. I’m going to just select “Trotline”
for this license type. Then “Hours/Days” that’s ‘how do you
report your fishing”. Most people in Maryland report hours of fishing. Then you have “Favorite Species”. On the left hand side there’s, what we call,
the “species tree”. Since this is a crab license will go with
“Blue Crabs” and you can just select this plus button to
the left of “Blue Crabs”. It should show you all the different ways
you can report blue crab. There’s “Female”, there are “Male
Number Ones”, “Male Number Twos” and you’ll see it says “Bu” for bushel, dozens,
pounds, number. However you report your crab, you can select
that. Let’s just say we are going to report “Male
Number Ones-Bushels” and “Male Number Twos-Bushels”. You’ll see that they populate the screen
down here. So over here it says “Disposition”, that’s
“what becomes of these crabs”. If you select that you can say “Food”,
“Personal use”, “Removed for Sale”. Most people are going to sell them, so we’ll
just say “Removed for Sale” for both of these. Then if you scroll down further
you have this option to “Add an Additional Dealer”. This is only if you use it the same dealer
all the time and you don’t want to have to look it up every time. You can go to this drop down menu and “Select
From All Dealers” and similarly to vessels, you can look up your dealer by their first
name, last name, or their corporate name. I’ll just use the first one here for this
example. You want to look through all the favorites
and make sure that everything’s the way that you like it to be. Go back to the top and click this green “SAVE”
button. If you did it correctly it should say “Favorites
Saved. Thank You.” So, now when you go in to add a trip report,
all of this information will already be there and it should make adding a trip report that
much easier. In my next video I’ll show you how to add
a trip report. Thank you!
