We Found Cruisers Paradise!- Sailing SV Delos Ep. 80

[MUSIC PLAYING] Previously on Delos. [EXCITED CHEERS] And the Indian Ocean
releases her fury on Delos. [INAUDIBLE] I’m set,
good for a few days. So after 16 days at sea,
and the last few days being really intense,
we were tired and so happy to arrive
in Cocos Keeling. I’m very excited ’cause
now I can walk again. Nobody’s getting
thrown around anymore. Ritual celebration breakfast,
bacon, American pancakes, and eggs. After every successful passage,
this is what Delos does best. Oh, it smells so good. Good job crew. Ready to eat bacon,
and eggs, and pancakes? I know you’re awake. I am so hungry. Honestly, it’s going to
be so good to just eat. Because normally we
cook half the pack. So you get like two
stripes of bacon. But now we know it’s
going to be more. We’re going to get like three
pieces and just like [CHOMP] eat it. Oh, I am so excited. [INAUDIBLE] So, we had a really,
really good night’s sleep. We arrived at Coco’s yesterday. And I think we all slept
for nearly 12 hours. And then we heard the
Coast Guard on the radio. And they said they were coming. So we just woke up. And we can see them zooming
across the lagoon right now. They should be here
in just a few minutes to check our paperwork
and get us checked in. And we’ll be able
to go to the beach. Yay. [INAUDIBLE]? Yep. Having only talked to each
other for quite a few weeks now, it was exciting to
meet some new faces. And being Australia,
the check-in process was straightforward and quick. [INTERPOSING VOICES] That guy was so easy. I know. Never going back to India. Where’s all the
additional formalities? So are we free to
go swimming and go– We can do what ever we want. And there’s wireless
internet service? [LAUGHTER] Right here. Where are we? Australia. We’re back to– We found our spot. We found our office. Let’s work. I think we’re going to go in
and check out the island soon. [MUSIC PLAYING] Look at this place. Crazy. Hey. So awesome. Welcome. [INAUDIBLE] It feels so exciting, land. [SINGING] Land,
aren’t we on land? Does it feel good? It’s so weird. It’s so weird, like
the sand in your toes. Oh, it’s so nice. We are so– I almost feel like I’m swaying
a little bit when I walk. How cool does it feel? –to be on solid ground. I’ve got the land sickness. If I had been knowing
little about Cocos, we found ourselves in paradise. This place really hit the spot. We had curious sharks swimming
around Delos all the time. We could eat as many coconuts
as our stomach allowed and swim naked in the crystal clear water
after a stroll on the beach. Pretty freaking awesome, right? So Cocos Keeling is a small
atoll out in the Indian Ocean. It’s Australian soil and have
around 600 permanent residents. Direction Island, which is
the only place we’re allowed to anchor, has no inhabitants. And it is perfectly set
up for cruises like us. We could really see ourselves
chilling here for awhile. Oh, man, this spot is
the best spot ever. It’s cruiser’s
paradise pretty much. We’re anchored, I don’t know,
50, 100 meters from the beach. And it’s just the
perfect white sand beach. We go for morning walks. And there’s these shelter’s
spaced really nice apart. People come and camp and– They pretty much have
everything on Direction Island. We have rainwater tanks. So we can get a
fresh water. rinse. And we always go hit the
shower to save water. And I pretty much have
to go down like this and, I don’t know,
it’s a bit tricky. But it works really good. And yeah, usually I get
some assistance too. So, from this I just
lean back and enjoy. I can also get some in my
beard, which is really nice. What’s going on up here? Not much, we’re
chilling in the sun. Hey, Brady. Yep, doing good. Just sending out
emails to people who are so kindly giving
us money for beer. So thank you very much for
helping out with our beer fund. You’ll get an email shortly,
if we ever get internet again. [MUSIC PLAYING] This whole beach is filled
with these awesomely cute little hermit crabs. I think it’s crazy. And there’s so many of them. Look at him. Sorry, little dude. [MUSIC PLAYING] Woo hoo! Woo! Perfect, office space
in Cocos Keeling. So, we’ve been
working really hard. And now we’re off for a snorkel. Cheers. Going to go and
watch some sharks. Yeah, let’s do it. Fucking Karin’s hair is
getting out of control. We need to cut. We’re not cutting my– [SINGING] Tuesday afternoon,
and we’re cutting Karin’s hair. So what kind of technique
do you use when you– Stray ends [INAUDIBLE]. I don’t think I’ve ever had
that quick of a cut before. No, Josje. Josje knows her shit. It took like literally
three minutes. [MUSIC PLAYING] It’s been an awesome day. We’ve been snorkeling and
doing some work on the beach. And look at this awesome sunset. [MUSIC PLAYING] Oh, look at them all. They’re massive. Look how many there are. [INAUDIBLE] She’s so cute. But it’s so cool to
be so close to them and just watching going back
and forward, back and forward. And I counted to 15. And it’s like the
water is so quite. And it’s so shallow. You can see everything. There’s another bunch. Look at these guys. I know, but it’s
so fucking cold. Hello there. [INAUDIBLE] I know they [INAUDIBLE]. Yeah, they’re showing
off their black tips. Oh, look. Oh, my God, look at them. So I’ve got lots of
paints and canvases. I’m going to carry on
doing some painting. And Delos wants
to do a Delos sign with lots of sea
shells and stuff for on the island of [INAUDIBLE] So we’re going to go
exploring, get some things, hopefully find some
driftwood and some shells. Let’s go. We’re just going to load up
the dinghy with all this fabric and stuff. [MUSIC PLAYING] So I was just
taking some footage of all the signs on the island. And there’s so many. And everybody started
to go and explore. But it’s going to take
[INAUDIBLE] so let’s [INAUDIBLE]. [MUSIC PLAYING] So Josje and Frida are
doing their photo shoot. And I’m just going to have a
look at what they’re doing. Hi, guys. Looking good. Um, yeah, come on over
where we hang out. Me and my friend Kimberly,
we started something called Fallondrin last year. And we’re both artists. And we paint. We build massive installations. And we have fun. And we try to involve
people that we meet. And it’s so cool to be on this
trip, crossing the Indian Ocean because you meet so
many awesome people. So I’m taking this inspiration. And here, me and Josje,
we’re just taking photos. This is just dripping. You see that sweat? Uh huh. More looks like I’ve
been stabbed in the face. Looks [? like you’re great ?]
or inciting some sort of a tropical war. So I found this the other day
that I totally forgot about it. There I am, Gypsy Pirate. And it’s kind of cool
because since I started the whole Ramatree
concept, it’s sort of been evolution of my creativity. And it’s cool because
I grabbed that out. And I was reading about it. And it was always
like, oh, I’ve always felt driven to explore
and learn in my own ways and to do something
unique and different. And here I am doing
the Ramatree thing. So I thought it tied
together really nicely. We’re going to take some photos
of this, maybe in the sand so I can put it
on my new website. And let’s do it. Just been kind of
experimenting with ways to take some photographs and
create a look and an idea and a kind of vibe. And we [INAUDIBLE]. It’s been awesome. It’s been so much fun exploring
that kind of creativity. And, yeah, it’s evolving
into something really cool. I feel a bit crazy. It’s been really fun though. It’s been really fun. We’ve got so far like
3,000 photos or something. Yeah. What are we doing? Doing our [INAUDIBLE]. So we’re just doing
the Delos sign. Yeah, we’ve all got
different ideas. Oops, my rubber just broke. We’re going to do like a Buddha. So that’s going
to be this board. And we’ve got a real
good place to put it. Sweet. It’s going to be good. [MUSIC PLAYING] So I just finished
sketching the Buddha band. Yeah, and it looks pretty sweet. Excited to do some painting? [MUSIC PLAYING] What are you guys doing in the
dinghy with all that stuff? Surprise. It’s a surprise. We’re going to rip it up. On the [INAUDIBLE]
Direction Island, we found the ultimate snorkeling
roller coaster called The Rip. It’s a ripping current running
through a small channel into the lagoon. And it’s filled with
fish and sharks. Rip it up! So we piled into Maggie
and dropped right at the top of the rapids. [MUSIC PLAYING] What did you think, Max? How was the– Great. Yeah, that was really cool. Saw some sharks and,
yeah, really good current. We went all the way out, got
picked up by the [INAUDIBLE]. What are the plans now? Well, I don’t know. We’re going to drink some beers. And might go and catch a
fish, chop up coconuts, and take photographs of
some crabs on the beach. Life is good. Yep. What have you been
up to, [INAUDIBLE]? Just reading a book. And there’s two other
people on the beach. So I thought I’d
put my boobs away. [LAUGHTER] It’s so nice to be free though. But it’s respectful, I think. And it’s 30 degrees,
which is [INAUDIBLE]. How’s the water? It’s real nice. It’s not as salty as we would
have usually [? been. ?] Yeah, it’s super nice. I did a paddle board before. And, paradise. Did you rip– There’s plenty of
coconuts on Cocos. But all the easy
ones have been taken. So we’re trying to get some
fresh ones because they have the good water in them. There’s a good one. [MUSIC PLAYING] It’s so good. Let’s get the meat out. Let’s– I will try this one. Not very much meat in there. It’s so young. This one’s a lot older. And it’s got a lot more
meat but less water in it. This is a good eating one. [MUSIC PLAYING] So we’ve got a email from Rick. A guy that’s been following us. And it turns out he lives
here in Cocos Keeling, which is kind of crazy. Out of, I don’t know, there’s
1,000 people that live here. And he’s been following
us for a couple of years. Oh, shit. What’s up? Hermit crabs. But he emailed us. And it’s really, really cool. And said give him a
call and catch up. He’s a dive instructor. And he likes to dive. So, turns out there’s
a phone on this island. This is weird. Oh, it’s ringing. Yeah, I know. It’s ringing. Rick, hey, mate, this
is Brady from Delos. Yeah, good, mate, how are you? Yeah, that’s crazy, man. Only in Australia, right? Pronto, pronto. Call to action. The tide is looking good to
head over to Home Island. And we’ll catch the
ferry over to West Island to see the Australian
settlement out here. It’s going to be sweet. We’ll meet up with Rick and
his wife, and see his house, and use his internet. So let’s do it. Going to the big smoke. Hopefully we won’t get too
wet on the way over though. Where are we going, guys? To party! [INAUDIBLE] party! Where is that? We’re styling. Look, everybody has clothes on. I know, it feels weird. Wearing bras for the first time. Bra? Yeah. It’s a half an hour wet dinghy
ride over to Home Island. [MUSIC PLAYING] This place is
really interesting. Around 500 Malaysian
descendants live here. Most Cocos Malay came here
as coconut plantation workers around the 1820s
and now live what seems like a pretty
quiet island lifestyle. Everyone rides
around on ATVs, live in sweet government houses, and
talk in an Australian accent. Did you hear that? He said g’day. This place is weird, man. This place is real weird. It’s like everybody
rides around on little like four-wheeler
things instead of scooters, and like bikes everywhere. And all the [INAUDIBLE]
have Australian accents, which is freaking me out. We left Maggie and took this
sweet ferry across the lagoon to West Island. It’s air conditioned. No way. Onwards towards West Island. [MUSIC PLAYING] [INAUDIBLE] cruising
across the lagoon. It’s awesome to go faster, to
not have to drive, and to worry about hitting shallow reefs
or coral, and just kick back. For like $2.50,
you can’t beat it. All right, so now we gotta
go and find our friend’s car. And I think we have a license
plate number that he gave us. Charlie nine, two, four. Oh, there we go. Charlie nine, two, four. How awesome was this? Rick, that we had
never met before, left us his car to use
while we were here. It was amazing to experience
such trusting and welcoming people. Oh, yeah. That is [INAUDIBLE]. Sweet to ride. Are the keys in the car? The keys are in the
ignition, of course. Ah, yes. Island life, Delos
land cruising. West Island has a totally
different feeling to it. Only about 100 people
live here, most working for the Australian
government in some way. It has everything a small
community would need, a school, store, pub,
airstrip, and a tropical island at your doorstep. We’re here at Rick’s house. To meet and get to know
the locals in the places that we visit is, for me,
the most amazing thing with traveling. Rick and his wife Jo showed
us incredible hospitality over the next few weeks and made
our visit here super special. So nice and [INAUDIBLE]. I just love her and [INAUDIBLE]. Looks like a pretty
sweet place, [? Dan ?]. [CHATTER] Agh. Oh, it’s cold in
here too, you guys. Yeah. Nice. [CHATTER] How nice. So yeah, we had a
really awesome day. And we met up with Rick
and his little kids. And they showed us
around the island. And it seems like we’ve
got a pretty sweet hookup while we’re here. And so we’re really
stoked about that. Yeah, just had a great day. And now we’re heading
back to the boat. And then they’re going
to come over tomorrow. And we’re going to have
a barbecue on the beach. His wife Jo took
the day off work. So we’re all going to hang
out and have a good Friday afternoon with some beers. So, pretty good. Up next– We’re going to have a barbecue
with Rick and his family. It’s pretty awesome,
pretty awesome day. And we find some
epic diving spots. [MUSIC PLAYING] Not too shabby here, eh. [LAUGHTER] Don’t laugh. I’m trying my best here. Oh, I’ve been scrubbing toilets. We’re gonna do it. [MUSIC – “FRERE JACQUES”] Fuck. Ding dang dong.

Australian bureaucracy is so much easier and more sensible than Indian isn't it? This points to a fundamental difference between Australians and Indians, despite their common British heritage.

had a big grin at hearing my fellow Aussies responding to you on the radio. Classic Australian Official accent that somehow just feels reassuring heh…. unlike some of the other bogan accents in down under haha

@Sailing SV Delos …This is a old one now, but i love to rewatch some of your old episodes and I just realized that at 9:37 in the video there is a clip of the sign we hung up on direction island in 2013 (its the one at the top with all the flip flops SV Crazy Daisy).. Great memories, great place 🙂 Love the videos and you guys. all the best.

I found it a shame people enjoying nature so much and still eat meat. I guess that's an Ozzy habit hard to get rid off.

Very nice vid, like all Your videos. I`m a bit at a loss regarding the sharks. Isn`t it dangerous to dive were they are? I understand they are getting demonized (like Pres. Putin (or Trump, when he is reluctant to start another peacekeeping operation), lol) but on the other hand the shark attacks on divers or swimmers exist, right? So seeing You swim between them without being attacked i conclude that a shark attack must be extremely improbable, is that right?
